Circulation Heaters

Glenn Circulation heaters have been designed primarily for high power outputs combined with high pressure requirements. The compactness, high efficiency, ease of control and installation allow wide application at relatively low cost. Circulation heaters are comlete systems which provide controlled heating of water in storage tanks for washrooms and showerooms, for meeting sanitary requirements, for process heating, for fuel oil preheating, glycol solutions, and for freeze protection. They are an efficient way to heat and maintain temperatures of heat transfer fluids in sumps and closed loop systems. They can be used fo rdirect heating of liquids in pipelines and for remotely heating processes in hazardous locations. The several watt densities offered permit use in fluids of varying viscosities and flow rates.

Glenn Circulation heaters can preheat and maintain temperatures required for industrial applications of air and gases, such as air-jet drying, vaporizing liquid oxygen, and heating carbon dioxide, helium, argon, and nitrogen. Other appplications include vacuum food packing, laboratory test air, and for steam superheating to assure uniform steam quality for various processes.

All units are constructed using reliable hairpin tubular elements welded or brazed to a standard pipeflange for easy removal from the vessel. Coper sheathed elements are used for water applications up to 350 deg F maximum sheath temperature. Steel elements are used for oil applications not corrosive to 300 series stainless steel up to 1000 deg. F. Maximum sheath temperatures of 1600 deg F. can be obtained using incoloy elements and a stainless steel pipe body. The vessel is a standard schedule 40 pipe body of welded construction with inlet and outlet connections and sediment drain. The pipe body is wrapped with a 1" thick ceramic fiber insulation blanket to reduce heat loss. Element headers are fitted with a thermowell positioned near the outlet connection. Thermowell accomodates Type AT thermostat (bulb and capillary style with DPST contacts) providing for complete automatic control. A heavy gauge painted enamel steel outer jacket is standard. Steel or stainless steel construction may be provided for 150 or 300 lb. pressure applications at 240 or 480 volts. Carbon steel pipe bodies are used on applications ip to 750 deg F., over 750 deg F. a specially coated steel vessel is required (consult factory). Stainless steel pipe bodies are used for corrosive and higher temperature applications.

When determining the porper type of circulation heater to be used, pay particular attention to the following:

• Viscosity, specific heat, density, and corrosive properties of the material being heated
• Contaminants present in the material being heated
• Corrosion resistant properties of sheath material being selected
• Watt density of heating element
• Proper vessel and flange material selection dependent upon corrosive properties of the material being heated

All circulation units are fabricated to meet customers individual requirements, while retaining the economical prices of mass produced equipment. Our flexible manufacturing techniques allow many modifications usually without additional cost.
