Metal sheathed tubular heaters are mounted in a rigid extruded aluminum reflector housing. Tubular elements provide an excellent source of radiation in the long wave lengths producing a far-infared energy which is absorbed with a great degree of uniformity by all colors from white to black. The uniform absorbtion characteristics and heavy duty all-metal construction are valuable features in many industrial heating processes.
Typical Applications:
The Glenn Type FR Radiant heaters are suitable for contact-free heating, drying, baking, curing, and sterilizing. Radian energy is absorbed by the material and transformed into immediate heat. Radiant heating provides an efficient means of process preheating to speed production of thermo-forming, glass, and welding operations.
Type SFR -- 1.85 KW per sq. ft. (approx 13 watts per sq.in.) of housing heated length.
Type DFR, U-FR, UD-FR -- 3.7 KW per sq. ft. (approx 26 watts per sq.in.) of housing heated length.
Temperatures
Radiant heaters are not recommended for use in ambient temperatures exceeding 450 deg F. Operations at higher ambiant temperatures have been devised and applied, but at the users risk.
Work temperatures up to 500 deg F can normally be attained. Reflective sheets between heaters are used to obtain work temperatures up to 300 deg F. Above 300 deg F, thermal insulation is additionally employed.
Sampling is the most reliable method of determining time/temperature relationships and general application data. Because of the wide latitude of process variables, calculation is not practical. However, comparison with other similar applications is often a practical approach.
